Winnie Ward -Our own Katie Taylor

What a privilege it was to welcome our very own past pupil, Winnie Ward, to our Assembly last Friday 29 April 2022. She is a Dublin and All Ireland boxing champion. Winnie is now a Secondary School student in St. Pauls’ Secondary School, Greenhills.

Winnie arrived at our assembly at 11.00 a.m. We were all so excited about her visit. She showed us her All Ireland Championship winning medal. Winnie told us that she has many medals and one trophy.

The person who is her greatest inspiration is her cousin who is also a boxer. Winnie always wanted to be a boxer and started boxing when she was 9 years old. Winnie trains for two hours three times a week. She encouraged the children to run and skip as this is part of her training too.

She told us that the three most important things you must do to become a good boxer is to listen, concentrate and not to give cheek to the coach. Winne said that she often trains with the boys and this has improved her ability to box.

We would like to thank Winnie for taking the time to visit us and for answering all the childrens’ questions. We wish her every success in the future.
